Cool Climate
The Coolest Wine Region
Robertson is South Africa's southernmost wine region and benefits from the coldest growing season in the Cape Winelands. Located 160 km from Cape Town along the Breede River, the valley's cool mountain breezes and limestone-rich soils create ideal conditions for slow-ripening white wines and sparkling wines of international caliber.
The region is particularly renowned for Chardonnay — Robertson Chardonnays consistently rank among South Africa's finest whites — and for fortified Muscadel wines that reflect the valley's unique terroir. In recent years, Robertson has gained recognition for traditional-method sparkling wines and experimental natural wines from boutique producers.
